One for the Underdog
Western Rivers Conservancy purchased Disaster Peak Ranch in 2020 to protect 19 miles of McDermitt Creek and key tributary streams to create a stronghold for Lahontan cutthroat trout. This is the story of the people who are working together to make this vision a reality in the high desert of the northern Great Basin, on the Oregon-Nevada border.
Save Blue Creek
Western Rivers Conservancy worked with the Yurok people to acquire and forever conserve 47,097 acres of forest to save Blue Creek, a cold water lifeline for some of the greatest salmon and steelhead left on the West Coast. The project created a salmon sanctuary in the heart of the California redwoods, returned sacred ancestral lands to the Yurok and helped ensure the Klamath’s great runs of salmon and steelhead are with us forever.
