Bookkeeper

WRC seeks a bookkeeping expert with top-notch attention to detail to help us protect the great rivers of the West. If you’re looking for a mission-oriented position with a reduced work week and great benefits, this job is for you! 

You’ll be responsible for the full range of bookkeeping duties, including journal entries, payroll, cash receipts, and accounts payable. You’ll also be responsible for related functions such as processing timesheets and expense reports, and tracking the use of restricted funds. If time allows, you might assist with database management, office management, or event logistics. You’ll enjoy a three-day work week with full benefits, and work out of our Portland headquarters.

Salary

$48,500 - $57,000 for 67% FTE (24 hours per week, schedule to be mutually determined)

Essential Job Responsibilities

—Process accounts payable

—Record cash disbursements such as EFT payments

—Track deposits and record cash receipts

—Perform monthly journal entries and assist with bank reconciliations

—Process payroll and ensure accurate payroll tax reporting and employee deductions

—Distribute and process monthly expense reports

—Distribute and process monthly timesheets; track employee PTO

—Process and ensure the accuracy of 403(b) retirement plan contributions

—Provide financial data as needed for grant applications and reports to funders

—Track the use of restricted funds by donor and project

—Prepare materials for internal controls procedures

—Maintain fixed assets schedules

—Assist with the annual and mid-year budget processes

—Assist with the annual audit process

When time allows, the Bookkeeper may also:

—Assist with database management

—Assist with logistics for board meetings and events

—Assist with office management 

Requirements

—Accuracy and attention to detail are essential

—Firm understanding of bookkeeping functions and accounting concepts

—Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

—Tact, good judgment and discretion

—Team player with strong communication and collaborative skills

—Flexibility and adaptability

—Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

—Experience with nonprofit fund accounting is preferred

—Experience with Salesforce is a plus
