Phillip Wallin co-founded Western Rivers Conservancy and serves as the organization's President. In 1988, Phil created River Network, which once housed Western Rivers Conservancy. Prior to establishing Western Rivers Conservancy, he was a founding staff member of the Trust for Public Land. During his fifteen-year career there, he helped to establish the land trust and urban programs, and served as Southwest Regional Director. Phil graduated from Stanford University and received his J.D. from the Chicago University School of Law.

Sue Doroff

Sue Doroff co-founded Western Rivers Conservancy and serves as Vice-President. Sue has more than twenty-five years of experience in conservation and commercial real estate, focusing on private-public cooperation. She is responsible for the long-term protection of more than 50,000 acres of riverlands in the Pacific Northwest, including lands on the Skagit, South Fork Stillaguamish, Hoko, Humptulips and Willamette Rivers. Sue received her B.S. from the University of Maryland and did her graduate work in Urban and Regional Planning at George Washington University.

Alan Christensen

Alan joined WRC in 2007 and has nearly 35 years experience working in land management, land protection and wildlife management for state, federal and private conservation organizations in the West.  He most recently retired from the U.S. Forest Service where he was Assistant Director for Natural Resources in Region 6 (Oregon and Washington).  A wildlife biologist by training, Alan holds both a Bachelor and Masters degree from Oregon State University.

Jenny joined Western Rivers Conservancy in 2003 after graduating from Willamette University with a degree in Environmental Science, bringing with her a background in newspaper journalism and science writing.

Don Elder

Don Elder joined the Western Rivers Conservancy as Director of Major Gifts in September 2008. He brings with him more than thirty years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and management, and more than twenty years of experience in river conservation, having served as founding Executive Director of the Cahaba River Society from 1988-1994, as Director of Development for The Nature Conservancy of Alabama from 1994-96 and as Vice-President and then President of River Network from 1996-2008.  Don is an avid fisherman who spends as much spare time as possible on the great rivers of the west.

Rob Griffith

Rob Griffith joined Western Rivers Conservancy in 2008 as Corporate Counsel. An attorney for 23 years, Rob previously was a partner and Chair of the Real Estate Practice Group in the Portland office of Garvey Schubert Barer, Western Rivers Conservancy’s pro bono law firm. During his 18 years with Garvey Schubert Barer, Rob built a long-standing relationship with Western Rivers Conservancy staff while representing WRC during dozens of riverland acquisitions. Rob is a graduate of Oregon State University and Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College. He also serves as a board member or advisor to local charities including Toys for Kids and the Salvation Army.

Josh Kling

Josh Kling is Western Rivers Conservancy's Project Manager. He began working with the Conservancy in 1999, and brings with him eight years of experience in field biology. He specialized in ecological monitoring while working for the U.S. Forest Service at the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Josh is also a Board Member with Friends of Opal Creek and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Marie C. & Joseph C. Wilson Foundation. Josh has a B.S. in Biology from Lewis and Clark College.

Mat Millenbach

Mat Millenbach joined the WRC staff in 2007. Mat is responsible for assessing the long-term results of land acquisition projects and for developing new conservation opportunities.  Mat previously worked for The Conservation Fund for four years as a field representative in the West. Mat also worked for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for 30 years, serving in four western states and in Washington, DC.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the Public Lands Foundation and the Yellowstone Association.

Anne joined Western Rivers Conservancy in 2006 as Administrative and Development Assistant. Anne graduated from the University of Oregon with degrees in History and Political Science. A skilled fly fisher, Anne brings with her several years of experience in the non-profit field, previously working for the Native Fish Society as Administrative Assistant.

Cam joined Western Rivers Conservancy at the beginning of 2008. He will open a WRC office in Sacramento, with one half his work taking place in California, and half in other Western States. Cam has 15 years’ experience in conservation law, public land management and land acquisition. He has also been an attorney and project manager for The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Resources Law Group in Sacramento, CA.

Everett White

Everett White joined Western Rivers Conservancy in 2010 as Project Manager, working primarily in eastern Washington and northern Idaho.  He most recently retired from the U.S. Forest Service (39 years) where he was responsible for land acquisitions on three National Forests in Washington. Everett holds a degree in Agriculture from North Carolina State University.

David Wilkins

David joined Western Rivers Conservancy in 2004 to lead its development program. He brings to the organization more than 15 years’ experience fundraising for annual operations, capital campaigns and capacity building. Prior to Western Rivers Conservancy, David served as Development Director with Oregon Wild. He began his career at River Network, where he worked with several of WRC’s current staff. David is a member of Willamette Valley Development Officers and a former Board member of Earth Share of Oregon and Urban Water Works. He holds a B.A. in history from the College of Wooster.

Willis joined WRC in 2008 as Director of the Interior West and Federal Affairs.  A talented veteran of the land conservation world, Willis is spearheading our new Helena, Montana, office.  Willis worked for the Nature Conservancy for twelve years, most recently as Director of Major Projects & Government Relations in Helena.  Prior to that, he worked for twelve years in commercial real estate.
